The US-based investment firm Trivela Group has bought 51% of the shares in Walsall Football Club and will buy more over the next two years.

Welcome as the new owner of the football club.

When the news reached us on Monday, it was a huge surprise, for me anyway. I did not expect this to happen this early into Pomlett’s tenure. Maybe in a few years down the road, but we have always known since Pomlett took over that he was looking to pass the club over to someone else. But for it to happen this soon was unexpected.
At first, he said he would pass it on when we reached The Championship. Pomlett later said when we won promotion to League One. When an opportunity like this comes, you can’t miss it because you never know if it will happen again.

I’m not sure what to think about what has happened. In some way, I’m excited about how the future will turn out. I’m happy this might speed up the chance to get the freehold owned by the club. Also, it will speed up the refurbishment of the Saddlers Club.

From what I’ve heard, the Saddlers Club was an important place to gather before matches and maybe even after. It will be interesting to find out what it will look like after the refurbishment. And what theme it will have? Will it become a sports bar where you can get something to eat and drink before and after the match?

When I visited Bescot, I wished there were somewhere you could get a proper meal before the match. I guess there is food in the kiosks at the stadium, but I’d like to have a place where I could sit and have a proper meal and drink. Maybe watch some other football matches while eating and have a few pints.

Will the takeover attract better players?

With the takeover done and dusted, the attention will be on the playing side. I’m sure Flynn would like to have most of his players in before the pre-season. In a week or two, I believe we will see a hat load of signings announced by the club just in time for pre-season.

The news about the takeover could make it easier to persuade more high-profile players to sign for Walsall. Maybe the club have waited for this to have a more attractive offer to give some players? Pomlett said Flynn got every player he’s asked for this far. I would be surprised if he won’t get the others on the shopping list.

Until the club start announcing new players, we have to be patient. I’m confident Flynn will bring in the player types he needs to build a strong squad. We don’t necessarily need to have the best players, but we need the right players who will do the job Flynn asks them to do.
As an example, Ray Graydon didn’t have the best players in his squad, but he had the right type of players that fitted his philosophy. Teams who fight for promotion need to have a bit of luck on their side too.

Pieces are finally falling into place at the club, one by one. After many years of decline, I think we can start looking up rather than down.

One question I’ve been thinking about is what some fans will find to moan about now. Bonser is no longer at the club. The freehold is soon to be owned by the club. The Saddlers Club will have a refurbishment. The matchday experience has shown signs of improvement, and new people and ideas are coming into the boardroom. More money is available in the wage budget. A proper manager is in place.

The future looks a lot brighter now than it did a few months ago.
