I felt over the moon after the win against Forest Green, and I should have known we were coming crashing down again in the next match. Could this be the time we finally turned the corner and stopped the decline?
Looking back at the Swindon game, I can’t see one single positive to take from that. All I did was try to forget about that match as soon as possible. I saw it as a bad day at the office.
After the defeat at Swindon, Flynn asked for an instant response against Hartlepool a few days later. And they did bounce back and beat them 3-1 in Flynn’s first game as manager at Bescot.
It was a great day where we got to see goals well taken by the strikers with a brace from Miller and one from Wilkinson.
Growing confidence
The confidence has been growing ever since the much-needed victory against Tranmere Rovers a few weeks ago. Looking back, we won eleven points from our last six matches. That is some improvement, and you could maybe say we have turned the corner.
Flynn hasn’t got the easiest of starts with four away games in his first five games, all except one against teams above them in the table. But we know The Saddlers usually play better against the top teams but squander and throw away points against the teams below them.
Barrow away yesterday was evidence of that. We allowed them to take the lead, and luckily we managed to steal one goal back in the second half to earn a point away from home.
I must admit I was a bit worried when I saw the starting eleven against Barrow. Starting the match with only two natural defenders and mostly attack-minded players, I felt the team looked unbalanced. Osadebe and Shade did ok, considering they play out of position.
Flynn said in the post-match interview that Hayden White are available for selection again next Saturday. He did not explain why Hayden White was missing from the match squad against Barrow.
I won’t speculate why White was missing. The smile on Flynn’s face showed there was something other than an injury or suspension behind the exclusion.
One week of preparations
We now have a whole week to prepare for our next match against third-placed Sutton United. I’m surprised Sutton is that high up in the table, but if you are consistent and win points, that’s where you end up.
It will be nice to have another match at Bescot. We have Oldham coming up on Mars 15th at Bescot as well. Two home games within a few days.
Even if things are improving out on the football pitch, it is not time to get satisfied and lean back to relax. As I mentioned earlier, two home games are coming up, and the matchday experience has been less than good all season. Don’t let a poor matchday experience ruin what could be two great games. I hope the club is paying attention to this and doing everything to improve the matchdays for our fans.
I stand with Ukraine
Finally, I want to take the opportunity to send two thumbs up to all supporters who spend their hard-earned money and time travelling around the country to support the team.
It isn’t possible to write a post and not highlight what is currently happening in Ukraine. It is impossible to imagine what people are going through over there right now in these horrendous times.
I thought humanity had gone further than this, but it seems that power-mad people still think they can do as they please.
I stand behind the Ukrainian people and support them in the heroic struggle they are currently going through.
