What is happening at Walsall? On Monday, it has been two weeks since Walsall published the video where Leigh Pomlett said they would appoint a Director of Football (DoF) to support and mentor Brian Dutton in his early managerial career. Since then, there has been total silence.
While giving Dutton full support, Leigh also said he expected to see some wins in the upcoming matches. Since the video, we have played three games, Crawley 1-1, Bolton 2-1 defeat and 0-0 against Southend. Those displays have not been sparkling and pretty dull, to be honest. To be fair to Dutton, we only played three matches since his vote of confidence. Still, wins are in high demand based on Pomletts statement. Maybe a win against Grimsby and a draw against Harrogate is enough for Leigh to let Dutton keep his job. The reason why I think we should demand six points from the upcoming two matches. Grimsby is dead last in the league, and Harrogate we play at home. We should always go in with the mindset to win home matches and that’s why I demand six points from these games.
I wish to see information about the DoF during the coming week and that he’s in place maybe for the match against Harrogate to try and get energy into the team. Also, a new voice in the dressing room is probably needed too.
I would like to talk about one more thing, and that is Jayden Reid. Walsall took him in on loan in January as a replacement for Adebayo but, he only was given one start to prove his worth instead they have given match time to Derick Osei Yaw. When I compare their impact on the pitch I would 10 out of 10 times pick Reid as my first choice. I do not know what Dutton sees in Osei Yaw because I can’t see him doing any impact on the match when he comes on other than look uninterested.
Yesterday Reid asked to be brought back to his parent club Birmingham to train and play with their U23 team.
How many talented players have we brought in on loan during the last few seasons only to let them be on the bench or not even in the match squad?
Walsall is not selling themselves as a club you would like to get loaned out to.
