Looking through the fixtures we can see Walsall have twelve matches left this season we play our last match of the season away against Carlisle on Saturday, May 8 if no changes in fixtures will be made from now.
We now have three away games in a row and, in total seven of the twelve matches is away from home. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. We have not played well at home and with no fans allowed I don’t think home advantage is as huge as it normally is.
Next, up on Saturday, we play promotion-chasing and fourth-placed Bolton away followed by a very important and crucial match on Tuesday, May 23 away against Southend who is placed 23 as I write this and would be relegated if the season ended now. Southend is nine points behind Walsall with one game more played. If Walsall wins their game in hand we will be 12 points clear of relegation.
In the coming six weeks Walsall will play ten matches. There won’t be much time for rest between matches and, Dutton together with the coaching staff have to make sure to keep our best players fit to play most of those matches. A couple of injuries could end our season in misery.
Beside Bolton (6) and Southend (23), we play Grimsby (24) on Saturday, March 27, Harrogate (12) Saturday, April 2, Leyton Orient (14) Monday, April 5, Forest Green (3) Saturday, April 10, Tranmere (5) Tuesday, April 13, Colchester (21) Saturday, April 17, Salford (9) Tuesday, April 20, Scunthorpe (18) Saturday, April 25 in the upcoming six weeks. The season is then finished with matches against Morecambe (7) and Carlisle (11) on Saturday, May 1 and Saturday, May 5. Their current league position in brackets. We can see we play teams from all areas of the table and not one single match looks like an easy three points in my book.
My wish is that we have built up good enough space down to the team in 23 well before the end of April.
