Unlucky once again

Walsall is unable to strike luck when it comes to money windfall from a potential Brentford promotion to the Premier League.

We are said to have a clause in Rico Henry’s contract that would give Walsall £500K if Brentford got promoted to the Premier League but after their overtime defeat against Fulham that money is not to be seen, not this season anyway. The good news is that both West Ham and Aston Villa are said to be interested in buying Henry and, we have a sell-on clause as well so some money might be heading our way anyway.

Secondly, we have a sell-on clause in Troy Deeney’s contract. With Watford relegated many believe Deeney will be snapped up by another Premier League team. Worrying news surfaced the other day that Tottenham are willing to loan Deeney from Watford and that would mean we will miss out on that transfer money as well.

What is my opinion on this? Well, first of all, we have heard rumours of Deeney being on the radar for many Premier League teams before. Almost every transfer window rumours of him being sold come up to the surface and then vanish again when the window close. With Watford relegated the possibilities for him to be transferred to another team is greater but I do not hold any high hopes.

In Rico Henry’s case, it is the opposite. He is a modern attacking wing-back, he’s young and might be worth a punt by some of the mid to bottom-placed Premier League teams. West Ham and Aston Villa are the first two clubs rumoured to be interested. The possible transfer fee might be starting at £1.5M. Walsall has what I have gathered a 15% sell-on clause on the profit made from the transfer. He was bought from Walsall for a fee said to be £500K. That would mean if he’s sold for £1.5M, we would have 15% of that £1M profit Brentford makes from the transfer.
The numbers above are not 100% certain though because Walsall is very good at keeping their transfer and contract information undisclosed.
