Summer is coming to its end autumn is around the corner. With all that has happened during 2020, we have earned some good football-related news. Last Friday news emerged from the EFL that the 2020/21 season will start on the weekend of 12 September. The EFL has yet to confirm the fixture schedule but, there is work in progress on that front.
Last week Danny Guthrie signed a new contract and with him signing all the players offered contracts have signed. With the news about the season kicking off in September, Darrell Clarke will now be able to begin strengthening the squad to have a promotion contending team ready for the upcoming season.
In just over a month time Darrell Clarke has to bring in a bunch of new players and at the same time get a pre-season practise to have the players fit and ready for the new season. Clarke and his staff will have to work around the clock to get this sorted.
Up until now, there have been none transfer activity or rumours surrounding Walsall to mention. So far the news I’ve seen is possible money windfall from a Troy Deeney transfer and from a contract clause in Rico Henry’s contract in case Brentford get promoted to Premier League.
With Watford relegated from the Premier League Troy Deeney might try and get a lifeline to continue his Premier League career with a different team with Barnsley rumoured to be interested in his services.
Deeney who is only 32 years old still has a few years left in Premier League in my opinion and, with his leadership qualities, he should be high on the wishlist at many teams outside the top six.
As a date for the season set, we will probably see more movement on the transfer market in the upcoming weeks. The transfer window will open on Monday 27 July and will close for international transfers 11 pm on Monday 5 October and domestic transfers at 5 pm on Friday 16 October.
