Yesterday’s match vs Salford is probably best to forget and start focusing on the next match instead.
The tactic to play long balls against a team that had 6+ feet central defenders wasn’t that clever in my opinion, mainly when the long-balls aimed towards Josh Gordon who was probably a foot shorter than the defenders he had to battle to win the ball. There were some times we played from the back, and that was a bit more effective up until an individual error halted the attack and gifted Salford a chance to counter-attack. Our crosses were terrible, and our corners as well. Can’t remember us creating one single chance from a corner. Alfie Bates had an excellent free-kick that made their keeper have to stretch out his full length to push the ball wide, and Josh Gordon had a powerful shot in the woodwork but other than this I can’t remember us creating much.
I feel we missed Danny Guthrie and I can’t understand why Liam Kinsella didn’t feature in this match since he’s been pretty good lately. If he was named as one of the subs, he can’t have been injured.
All in all, it was an uninspired display, and I had hoped for a much better show. Darrell Clarke and his staff now have to analyse this and see what can be better till next match.
