Walsall steps into the 2019/20 season as a completely new club with a new manager, almost entirely new squad and as from yesterday a new chairman and owner.
July 29, 2019, will for always be included in the history books regarding the history of Walsall FC.
News emerged from the club and hit many with surprise. Leigh Pomlett has bought the majority of the shares and will take over the ownership and become the new chairman of Walsall FC from previously owner Jeff Bonser.
What will this mean for the club?
I’m not sure to be honest, maybe because I’m still surprised.
First of all, I don’t know anything about Leigh, which financial strength he comes into the club with or if there will be a new way of running the club. I guess we have to wait and see what changes he brings to the club.
In one way, I don’t want him to risk the future of the club, but on the other hand, I hope he shows more ambition than Bonser has done the last 5-10 years.
To get the fans back to the stands, Leigh has to be more open and talk to the fans and not hide as Bonser did.
Many have boycotted the home matches as a protest against Jeff Bonser and his way of running the club. Hopefully, many of those will now come back and support the team and bring in more money to the club through ticket sales. Every penny counts to be able to be a league-winning contender.
The club is currently oozing of positive vibes, and I hope we fans try and spread even more positivity by supporting the team beginning on Saturday at Northampton.
No more #bonserout hashtags, hopefully, those moaning about Bonser now can concentrate on supporting the team and leave everything related to Bonser behind them. There is no need to drag that any further now that he’s gone from the club.
Welcome Leigh, take us back on track and get us back into the Championship, please.
